Abdullah Ibrahim

The NSS notes the passing of the legendary South African pianist, composer, and cultural ambassador Abdullah Ibrahim, who died on June 15, 2026, at age 91. For more than seven decades, his music blended African traditions, jazz, spirituality, and classical influences into a voice that inspired audiences worldwide.

Known for works such as Mannenberg, Ibrahim leaves a lasting legacy of artistic excellence, humanity, and cultural bridge-building. The NSS is honored to celebrate his music this September with a performance of his African Suite. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and admirers around the world.

Musician Spotlight

Jie Kim

Jie Hyue Kim is a native of Daejeon, South Korea. Born into a musical family, and began studying violin at age eight. Dr. Kim received her doctoral degree from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music of the Catholic University of America as a full scholarship fellow and the teaching assistant in music theory department.
