Founded in 2013, the NSS is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and performing the rich repertoire written for symphonic string ensembles. Much of this music remains underrepresented on concert stages due to its relative obscurity, artistic complexity, and the challenges associated with obtaining performance materials. Through our work, we seek to bring these remarkable compositions to new audiences and ensure their continued vitality.
Our vision extends beyond the traditional concert hall. We strive to become an essential part of the cultural and musical lives of people of all ages and backgrounds by creating engaging, accessible, and meaningful musical experiences. Through innovative concert formats, educational programming, multimedia elements, and creative audience engagement, we aim to deepen connections between performers, composers, and listeners while maintaining the highest artistic standards.
The string orchestra repertoire spans nearly five centuries and reflects an extraordinary breadth of musical expression. While classical music is often associated with a narrow historical image, the art form continues to evolve through the voices of composers representing diverse genders, cultures, ethnicities, generations, geographic regions, and artistic perspectives. We are committed to celebrating both the established masterpieces and the vibrant contemporary works that shape the future of the repertoire.
This spirit of diversity and inclusivity is reflected within the National String Symphonia itself. Our musicians represent a wide range of ages, backgrounds, nationalities, and professional experiences. Together, they bring a wealth of artistic insight and a shared passion for creating inspiring performances that honor the universality of music and its power to connect communities.
